The best MES software for your factory depends on what you make, how you make it and where your current process falls short. A food manufacturer reducing short stops, a pharmaceutical team digitizing batch records and an electronics plant tracing components will need different workflows.
This guide compares eight systems by their stated product focus, then gives you a practical way to evaluate fit, integration and cost. Use the table to build a shortlist and the demo checklist to test it.
Accevo publishes this guide and offers one of the systems below. The comparison draws on public product information; we have not tested or scored the products in a shared production environment.

Eight MES systems: fit and questions to ask
Accevo MES
Consider Accevo MES if your project combines machine performance, material traceability and in-process quality checks. For high-speed consumer goods production, the main questions often concern short stops, changeovers and material checks at the point of use.
Ask in the demo: Connect a representative machine, record a short stop and trace a material lot into finished output. Confirm which modules cover your quality and batch-record needs. If you need finite-capacity scheduling, include the APS module in the scope and price.
AVEVA MES
AVEVA describes a model-driven MES for production, inventory and quality, with a hybrid architecture that combines plant-level execution and cloud services. Its stated industry focus includes food and beverage, consumer goods and specialty chemicals.
Ask in the demo: Run one of your operator workflows and show how local execution connects to reporting across sites. Establish who maintains the process model and how you will approve changes after rollout.
Siemens Opcenter Execution Process
Siemens Opcenter Execution Process addresses process manufacturing, including food, beverage and chemicals. Its product focus covers material, formula, recipe and batch management, with quality sampling and links to laboratory systems.
Ask in the demo: Change a recipe version and handle a failed sample. Identify the execution, laboratory and scheduling products in the proposal. Opcenter Execution Discrete is a separate offering, so buyers of assembly workflows should confirm the relevant edition.
Infor MES
Infor MES covers production alongside inventory, quality, maintenance and energy management. Manufacturers evaluating a common operations model across sites can examine its centralized master-data and multi-site capabilities.
Ask in the demo: Receive an order from your ERP, execute it on a line and return production results. Show how corporate master data and local plant rules work together. Confirm the modules needed for the first site.
Parsec TrakSYS
Parsec positions TrakSYS as a configurable MES for batch, discrete and continuous operations. Its workflows cover areas such as performance, quality, guided work and production records.
Ask in the demo: Configure a workflow using your order, material and quality rules. Ask which changes your own team can make, what training it needs and how it will test and approve those changes.
Plex MES
Plex offers cloud-based MES/MOM with production execution, material tracking, quality and ERP connectivity. Include it in a cloud-focused evaluation where you want a common execution model across your plants.
Ask in the demo: Show how operators complete work and how the system exchanges transactions with your ERP. Test a network interruption and identify the local functions, data buffering and recovery arrangements in the proposed configuration.
Critical Manufacturing MES
Critical Manufacturing describes MES capabilities for electronics and semiconductor production, including product genealogy and tracking across lots, panels, boards and other production structures. Examine it when material history and complex process routes drive your requirements.
Ask in the demo: Trace a component or lot through your actual route, including rework. Show equipment integration and a process change. Check that the proposed tracking model fits the identifiers your factory uses.
Körber Werum PAS-X MES
Werum PAS-X focuses on pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturing. Its electronic batch-record functions include master batch record design, guided execution, version management and review and approval workflows.
Ask in the demo: Use one of your batch records to test a deviation, a correction and the quality team’s review. Confirm the implementation and validation work needed for your site’s procedures.
Build your shortlist around your production model

High-speed lines and consumer goods: Investigate Accevo, AVEVA, Siemens Opcenter Execution Process, Infor and TrakSYS. Focus on short-stop detection, changeovers, material checks and the work operators must do to keep records complete.
Pharmaceutical and biotech batches: Start with your master batch record and quality review process. Werum PAS-X is a relevant starting point. If you also evaluate Accevo or TrakSYS batch-record workflows, require a demonstration against the same procedures and a comparable site reference.
Electronics and semiconductors: Examine Critical Manufacturing’s genealogy and process-tracking capabilities. If you evaluate Siemens, distinguish its process, discrete and semiconductor offerings before comparing scope.
Cloud and multi-site programs: Deployment is a separate decision from industry fit. Compare Plex’s cloud approach, AVEVA’s hybrid design and Infor’s multi-site capabilities, then ask the other shortlisted suppliers to show their proposed architecture. Test local plant differences and connection failures during the pilot.
How to compare MES costs
Ask each vendor to price the same first-site scope and the same expansion plan. A license or subscription price alone will not tell you what it takes to run the system in your factory.
Include these items in the quotation:
- Software: Required modules, user or site licensing and any separate scheduling or reporting tools.
- Integracja: ERP interfaces, machine connections, scanners, operator terminals and data preparation.
- Wdrożenie: Workflow configuration, testing, training and any validation work your site needs.
- Operations: Hosting, support, upgrades, backups and the work your internal team will take on.
- Expansion: Additional lines and plants, including changes for local equipment, languages and procedures.
Agree on the period you will compare, such as three or five years. Ask vendors to state assumptions and exclusions so you can compare proposals on the same basis.

Give every vendor the same demo checklist
Choose scenarios from your own production process. Ask suppliers to demonstrate the workflow and show the records it creates.
- Wrong material: Scan a lot that the order does not allow. Check the warning or block, override permissions and material history.
- Failed quality check: Enter an out-of-limit result. Show the hold, review and final disposition of affected output.
- Short stop and lost connection: Record a brief machine stop, interrupt the connection and recover. Check for missing or duplicate events.
- Changed production plan: Introduce a rush order while a constrained machine is down. Show the execution response and any separate scheduling step.
- Second plant: Reuse the first site’s workflow at a plant with different equipment or local rules. Identify what your team can reuse and what needs configuration.
Invite operators and quality staff to the demonstration. A workflow that looks clear on a presentation slide may require too much input during a shift.
Record whether each requirement needs a standard feature, configuration, another module or custom development. Then compare the implementation effort alongside the software fit.
Use reviews and analyst research to support your decision
Customer reviews can help you identify questions about support, usability and implementation. Read the review date, industry and project scope as well as the score. Ask shortlisted vendors for references with needs close to yours.
As checked on 1 October 2026, Gartner Peer Insights lists Accevo MES at 4.9/5 from 45 ratings. Peer Insights reviews reflect individual users’ experiences and do not represent a Gartner endorsement.
Nucleus Research’s 2026 MES Technology Value Matrix offers another perspective on the market. Its public summary names Eyelit Technologies, Honeywell, Infor, Parsec, Rockwell Automation and Siemens as leaders. Check a report’s methodology and vendor coverage before using it to narrow your shortlist.
Common questions about choosing MES software
Which MES is best for my industry?
Start with the fit table, then test your main workflow. Industry experience matters, but your equipment, material model and exception procedures determine what the system must handle.
Should I choose cloud or on-premises MES?
Compare the proposed architecture against your connectivity, security requirements and internal support capacity. For cloud, hybrid and on-premises options, ask what operators can do during an outage and how the team restores the production record.
Can MES replace ERP or SCADA?
MES manages production execution and its records. ERP handles business planning and inventory, while SCADA supports equipment supervision. Read our MES vs SCADA guide to identify which responsibilities you need to integrate.
How should I start an MES project?
Choose one production problem, define the workflow and agree how you will measure improvement. Pilot the proposed solution on a representative line or process before expanding to other plants.
