A cloud MES runs some or all application services in cloud infrastructure; an edge MES places selected services close to plant equipment; a hybrid MES combines the two. The choice affects connectivity, latency, resilience, data governance and deployment management. “Cloud,” “edge” and “hybrid” describe deployment patterns, not the production capabilities an MES should provide.
