OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA) is a platform-independent industrial communication framework for exchanging data and structured information between devices and applications. It includes services and security mechanisms, while the information exposed depends on the server, data model and implementation. OPC UA can connect shop-floor systems with MES or other applications, but integration still requires agreed semantics and access rules.
