MQTT is a lightweight publish/subscribe messaging protocol in which clients exchange messages through a broker. Its small message overhead can suit telemetry and devices with limited bandwidth. MQTT defines message delivery mechanics, not the meaning of manufacturing data, so topics, payloads, security and operational context need to be designed for the use case.
