Industry 4.0 describes the use of connected, data-enabled technologies in industry, especially manufacturing. It is often called the fourth industrial revolution because digital systems increasingly connect equipment, products, and people.
Common technologies include industrial sensors and the Internet of Things (IIoT), automation, robotics, cloud platforms, and data analytics or AI. They can give teams more timely information and help coordinate production, maintenance, and quality processes.
Industry 4.0 does not mean every factory is fully autonomous. Manufacturers adopt technologies at different speeds, and people remain central to operating and improving a smart factory.
