A Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is an industrial computer that reads inputs from sensors or other devices, runs control logic and updates outputs such as actuators. PLCs are designed for reliable control of machines and processes. They usually operate at the control layer; systems such as SCADA and MES provide supervisory monitoring or production context.
